Company details are: UbiCar Insurance Pty Ltd (ABN 83 601 223 858; AFSL 469073) policies are underwritten by RAC Insurance Pty Limited (ABN 59 094 685 882; AFSL 231222).
If you drive well, you are less likely have an accident, so it makes sense that you should pay less for your insurance – that’s fair and that’s what UbiCar aims to deliver. We’re making sure that premiums for car insurance are fair one policy at a time.
We believe in fair priced insurance for everyone and are using technology to deliver lower cost car insurance.
The UbiCar app tracks your driving (think braking, cornering, phone distraction, acceleration and speeding) and uses that information to give you a driver score and calculate your premium. The better driver you are, the better your premium will be. The UbiCar App is free in the app stores.
Your driving score reflects how safe a driver you are, ranging from 40 to 100. The higher the score, the safer the driver! The primary elements of driving behaviour that go into these calculations are your speed, harsh braking and acceleration, cornering, and mobile phone distraction. Your driving behaviour is monitored across a variety of trips to give you an average score. You can monitor your scores through your free UbiCar App.
You simply pay insurance for the number of kilometres you drive each month plus a low base premium for when your car is not being used.
At the end of the month we multiply the kilometres driven for that month by the rate per km. We add that to your monthly base premium and that’s the total you pay. No need to worry if you’re going on a road trip, we cap the daily km charge at 100km so you can rest assured your costs stay affordable.
Your premium will vary monthly depending on how many kilometres you drive. We consider other factors as well when calculating your base premium and rate per km. This includes things such as your car’s agreed value, the make and model of your car and where you keep your car overnight. The base rate covers your car whilst you are not driving.
When you sign up for a Pay per km policy you are sent an UbiCar Device which takes a reading of your odometer. We use that number of kilometres to calculate your premium each month and whenever you change or cancel your policy.
UbiCar is not for everyone. You may find you can get cheaper insurance elsewhere, and we’d encourage you to find the best price together with features and benefits for your car insurance.

Cheap Car Insurance TAS
If you’re looking for cheap car insurance TAS then you should be looking for an insurance provider which takes the time to assess the individual driver and their driving habits rather than the provider who only uses general statistics to evaluate potential driver risk. Whether you’re a long term resident in Tasmania or recently relocated from Victoria, NSW, QLD, etc, it pays to have a good look at all of the insurance providers on offer to find the best price for your premiums before you sign up.
Every driver on the road will need some form of car insurance to legally drive their vehicle, whether that’s comprehensive cover as well as their CTP insurance , or only the minimum insurance levels as mandated in WA, SA, etc. Most providers use a system of statistics to evaluate the risk a driver poses when they apply for coverage but UbiCar is different. We believe in rewarding safe driving and use the latest app based technology to do this.. For example, our cheap car insurance TAS can be calculated on a pay per km basis using our state-of-the-art UbiCar App. We operate all over the country, offering not only cheap car insurance Hobart but also cheap insurance in NT, ACT, etc.
For customers with an existing policy, there are a few things to consider when it comes to renewing your current comprehensive car insurance or collecting insurance quotes from other providers for comparison. For example, if your insurance premium has increased by more than the annual CPI amount when it comes time to renew, then you should probably start looking for another provider. Generally speaking, when your renewal cost exceeds the usual increase then it may be a sign that your insurance provider is taking your continued custom for granted and hasn’t bothered to tailor a policy and premium based on your previous driving history with them. You can get in contact with them and ask what their best rate is, asking them to review your previous claims history, or you can start collecting competitive quotes and take a look at what other providers are offering instead.
A quick online search for cheap car insurance Hobart will give you some comparative data to use and assess your potential cost savings between providers, but there will usually be very little in the way of cost savings if the providers you’re comparing are all using the same assessment tools and statistics. Stats considered include things like accidents or claims made throughout the region or surrounding areas like Launceston, Devonport, Burnie and Ulverstone. What other providers rarely consider is the actual driving that you will do while you hold a current vehicle insurance policy with them. You’re often paying for coverage that you don’t actually need so it’s a good idea to review your level of cover and consider things like the actual kilometres that you drive your car and then areas that you drive most often. For example, do you do a lot of inner-city driving? Do you frequently drive interstate, visiting the mainland by car?
If you’re only driving locally and not touring Australia in your insured vehicle then you can look for providers who actively reward drivers for reducing risk. The most affordable way to insure your car is by sharing your actual driving data with your insurer. The UbiCar app, for example, keeps your driving habits in constant contact with your insurer You can maintain affordable cheap car insurance TAS and keep your excess premium low by letting your insurer know that you don’t take unnecessary risks while driving.
Are you a young person, learner driver or a vehicle owner who shares their car with a younger driver? Young drivers who haven’t had their driver’s licence for very long are often the most heavily stung when it comes to car insurance. Drivers under 21 will usually face very high premiums regardless of the level of cover that they choose. Even third party fire and theft insurance can be incredibly high as insurance providers will use the accident data collected from other drivers within their age group to assess the likelihood of an incident occurring while the driver is driving. Once registration and roadside assistance costs are factored in, owning and operating a vehicle for drivers under 25 can become very expensive. Choosing an insurer who knows exactly how a young person is driving rather than making assumptions based on other drivers in their age group is much more likely to offer cheap car insurance TAS. If you’re working with a tight budget and want to ensure that your vehicle is covered for everything, including accidental damage, then it pays to look around before settling on a quote.
Similarly, Uber drivers and other rideshare drivers, who make a living driving their vehicle, need the highest level of coverage for the lowest possible price. Finding cheaper car insurance Hobart could make a significant difference when it comes to working out your daily running costs. Often what appears to be a small difference in premium costs at first can quickly turn into big savings over the longer term.
